Swype To The Next Big Thing

Curiosity is the mother of invention, they say.

It was the curiosity of knowing the reason behind the fall of an apple that made Isaac Newton invent the Laws of Motion. This curiosity of men never had a rest, it made us grow, gain and gather. We are what we are because of our unending curiosity.

As we speak about it, what do you think is the future of the internet? Aren’t you curious about it? Obviously, we are. Internet is evolving every minute as we speak. It is arguably the most important technology revolution in the history of humankind, it would be difficult to comprehend our lives without it, and especially in more recent times with a global pandemic, we reside on the internet for our occupational, communicative, educational, financial and recreational needs.

As we use it, it is quite important to know a little about it, let’s start with its evolution. The Internet we see today has gone through two major iterations as of now and we are eagerly expecting the third one. Before the internet grows any bigger, brighter, and beautiful, let’s look into its vibrant evolution.

Web 1.0 It is the late 1980s and with a loud roar, we get to hear the commencement of our very own internet, comprised of static “read-only” webpages created by relatively few participants. It provided access to limited information with little user interaction, however, it remained the most reliable web source in the 1990s. It did not have algorithms to sift through Internet web pages. With no search engines available during this iteration, moreover, browsing the World Wide Web (WWW) was not the straightforward practice we know today. Web 2.0 Web 1.0 was unilateral.

However, in the early 2000s, we found a ground-breaking revolution where we turned this one-way communication and eventually introduced Web 2.0.

Men made the internet interactive

(I mean, better than the first version). This opened up enormous opportunities for businesses, particularly e-commerce, as new internet companies could inexpensively market their products and services to a global base of potential online consumers. The world was growing as the internet was seamlessly evolving. Web.2.0 allows data sharing between various platforms and applications, Companies began setting up interactive web platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Web 3.0 This is the future.

Web 3.0 mainly focuses on connecting data in a decentralized way, and hence it can also be called the decentralized web. Web 3.0 offers a great variety of dreamy offers to the users like a more personalized browsing experience, richer app experience, and better search results. But all these are just the handful from the ocean of Web 3.0. It will be born out of a natural evolution of older-generation web tools combined with cutting-edge technologies like AI and blockchain, as well the interconnection between users and increasing internet usage.

The AI software like Alexa and Siri that we use today are the perfect examples of Web 3.0. So, what makes us wait for this Web 3.0? We can answer that with a simple statement from analyst Jeremiah Owyang. Owyang describes Web 3.0 as a shift of power to the people, “the people are in charge of their data, identity, and monetization”, isn’t that what we all want?
